My Aunt

Elisabeth was my aunty and I always thought of her as that. Although I remember once introducing her to a friend when I was an adult as my Aunty Elisabeth and she said we were getting too old for that! I was lucky to have her as almost my second mother for the decade that I lived in London. I would visit her in the countryside and she would come to London and we would delight in the arts together. I would take her to the member's lounge after seeing an exhibit at the Tate Modern and we both loved the view over the Thames to St Paul's so much. She would invite me to the opera and I have so many happy memories of picnic lunches followed by fantastic music and performance.

Elisabeth was always so delighted to see me and she really enjoyed hearing about my life - she had an enthusiasm that was truly wonderful. She was always very generous and made sure I felt very welcome in her home and included in family events. She and I loved art together and I loved talking about the intricacies of what we saw and how it made us feel - she had encyclopaedic knowledge of so many topics and I learnt so much from her.

I will miss her a lot and especially the next time I am in the UK, it will be a gaping hole not to have her there. I feel truly fortunate to have had her for my aunty and I loved her very much.
